How craft tourism works

A handful of craft towns worldwide have built their whole identity around visitors — open workshops, guided routes, a market timed to the tour bus. Most craft production is not organised this way. It happens in working cooperatives, family workshops and export clusters that were never set up as tourist attractions, and visiting them well usually means writing ahead, going through a cooperative, guide or emporium, and treating a workshop visit as a look at someone’s livelihood rather than a performance staged for guests.

Each country page below opens with what is actually documented — a named craft town where one exists on this site, or the general shape of how that country’s craft trade can be visited where it does not — and then routes to a live search for opening arrangements, seasons and current visitor programmes, since these change year to year in a way a static page cannot keep up with.
