Visiting the craft trade in Peru
Peru’s best-documented visitor point is Cusco. Andean weaving cooperatives, alpaca and vicuña supply, silverwork and ceramics, with a well-developed fair-trade certification presence. A visit here is worth arranging directly through a workshop, cooperative or the town’s craft association rather than turning up unannounced, since much of the work happens in small family units, not public showrooms.
Beyond these named towns, Peru also has craft activity organised around cooperatives, state or regional emporiums, and export clusters that are not set up as visitor attractions but will often host a serious buyer or a small group by prior arrangement.
