Hand-carved stone reaches buyers as inlay table tops, sculpture, garden ware, architectural elements and small giftware. Marble, sandstone, soapstone, alabaster, granite and slate each carve differently and weather differently, and the inlay traditions — stone set into stone — are among the slowest and most skilled work in the craft economy. What goes wrong
Stone is heavy, and freight decides whether the deal works at all. Price everything delivered, not ex-works, and check crating: a marble panel that arrives cracked is a total loss, not a repair. On the product, ask about the stone's source and whether inlay is genuine stone or a resin composite — the substitution is common and hard to see once polished.
